Meet BTN’s New Executive Director
Laura Hynes, MA, BSN, BA, RN: Leading the Way at Brain Tumor Network
We are thrilled to announce Laura Hynes, MA, RN as the new Executive Director of the Brain Tumor Network (BTN). With an impressive track record in healthcare and a personal commitment to our mission, Laura is poised to lead BTN into a new era of growth, innovation, and impact for the neuro-oncology community.

Executive Director
A Passion for Impact
Laura’s journey with BTN began seven years ago, driven by a profound connection to our founder Rick Sontag’s vision for unparalleled patient navigation. Her dedication to our cause stems from her firsthand experience with the transformative effects patient navigation has on those diagnosed with primary brain tumors. “The direct impact we have on patients’ lives fuels my commitment every day,” Laura shares. As we embrace the rapid advancements in oncology, including AI technology and the discovery of new biomarkers, Laura’s leadership is a beacon of progress and patient advocacy in collaboration with the Sontag Foundation and other non-profit partners.
Vision for the Future
Laura’s primary goal for BTN is clear: amplify our visibility so we can support more patients and healthcare professionals from the moment of diagnosis. “Increasing our name recognition is crucial. The more people know about us, the more lives we can touch,” she asserts. Under her guidance, BTN will enhance its patient services and leverage powerful patient stories and testimonials to reach a broader audience.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Laura’s path to leadership at BTN was paved with diverse experiences and challenges that equipped her with unique insights and skills. From her early days as a neuro-surgical nurse at NYP-Weill Cornell, to her role as a Perioperative Nursing Instructor, and later as a nurse navigator at BTN, her career has been a testament to her dedication to patient care and education.
Overcoming Challenges with Resilience
Life’s challenges have only strengthened Laura’s resolve. Moving to Florida presented unexpected trials for her family, but through resilience and adaptability, they found strength together. This personal journey mirrors the tenacity she brings to BTN.
A Personal Touch
When not steering BTN towards new heights, Laura loves traveling with her family, especially to the north fork of Long Island where she cherishes sharing her childhood experiences with those she loves most. “It’s a place of beautiful simplicity, where I can reconnect with my roots and share this joy with my family,” she explains.
As Laura Hynes steps into her role as Executive Director, her vision and passion herald an exciting new chapter for our organization. With her at the helm, we are set to expand our reach, enhance our services, and continue making a significant impact in the lives of those affected by primary brain tumors.
Join us in welcoming Laura to this pivotal role, as we look forward to the innovative and compassionate strides BTN will make under her leadership.
