“Our Navigator was the support we didn’t know we needed along this journey”

My husband, Dan, survived glioblastoma brain cancer for 3.5 years.

I learned of the Brain Tumor Network about a year after his diagnosis from a fellow GBM patient we randomly met in a grocery store parking lot due to both wearing the Optune device. She spoke so highly of BTN to random strangers that [I] had to reach out.

Once I contacted BTN I was immediately connected to our Nurse Navigator and a she was there every step of the way, including after Dan’s passing.

Our Navigator was the support we didn’t know we needed along this journey. She was who I called first after leaving doctor appointments. She answered all of our questions, helped explain all of our options, and ran tons of clinical trial searches no matter how many times I asked.

Dan never matched with a trial due to his complex case; but that didn’t slow our navigator down -researching and discussing every crazy option I emailed her.

Our Nurse Navigator also connected us with the wonderful Social Workers at BTN. They helped answer all my other questions: insurance, resources, support…if they didn’t know the answer they would find it. The Social Workers also help run a great support group that I’m happy to still participate in and share Dan’s story.

It was a wild 3.5 years and beyond but I’m so grateful we had and continue to have the support of the Brain Tumor Network.
