Theo’s Triumph: A Promise Fulfilled

In the world of endurance sports, few challenges are as grueling as the Death Ride Tour of the California Alps, a 103-mile cycling event that puts human determination and resilience to the test. For Theo C., this event held a deeper significance. Two years ago, he embarked on a mission to raise funds for the Brain Tumor Network (BTN) in connection to his alpine racing challenge, after the heartbreaking loss of his father to Glioblastoma several years prior. His dedication and passion resonated with many, helping him raise several thousand dollars to support BTN’s free navigation services. However, just weeks before the race, an injury halted his plans, leaving a promise unfulfilled.

This July 2024, after a long and arduous recovery, Theo returned to the Death Ride with a renewed spirit and a promise to keep. His journey is not just a tale of personal triumph but a beacon of hope and determination for those families affected by brain tumors. In his own words, Theo shares his heartfelt journey and gratitude in a letter to his supporters, accompanied by photos capturing the essence of his remarkable achievement:

Hi Everyone,

Long time no see. Two years ago, I committed to participate in a 103-mile Alpine “Death Ride” bike race to fundraise for and bring awareness to the Brain Tumor Network, a non-profit dedicated to providing free services to patients and loved ones dealing with a brain tumor diagnosis. Each of you were incredibly generous to contribute to my campaign in support of the BTN. Although I injured my knee just before the race in 2022, I committed that I’d be back to fulfill my end of the bargain.

Now two years later, I finally have an update! We did it. This past Saturday (7/13/24), I raced in and finished the Death Ride wearing a jersey listing all of your names on my back. Thank you for giving a part of yourselves to support this immensely impactful organization. It was my privilege to bring you all along with me during the ride. Collectively, over 200 of you helped to raise just shy of $30,000 for the Brain Tumor Network, directly supporting families dealing with the chaos and confusion of their own brain tumor diagnosis.

Both the BTN and I are forever grateful for your generosity in support of this cause. To say thank you, I’ve attached some photos from race day and the jersey I wore with all of your names on it.

Love always,
Theo C.
