Helping Daniel Find the Right Specialist and Renewed Confidence in His Care

When Daniel’s symptoms were finally traced to an orange-sized schwannoma, he faced a long recovery and uncertainty about where to turn. Brain Tumor Network helped him access expert care, understand his diagnosis, and move forward with greater confidence.

After serving in both the Army and Navy, Daniel began experiencing symptoms that were first thought to be from a traumatic brain injury. Tests later revealed an orange-sized schwannoma on his brain. Following a 12-hour surgery, Daniel had to relearn how to walk and talk.

While working with the VA, Daniel struggled to find a specialist who understood his rare tumor type. A friend told him about Brain Tumor Network, and he was quickly connected with a neuro-oncology nurse navigator. She gathered his medical records, arranged an appointment with Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, and helped him better understand his diagnosis and treatment options.

This 30-minute appointment provided me with more information and reassurance than I found in two surgeries and months of seeing a specialist

Daniel’s tumor is now stable, and he continues to live life fully with his wife, three sons, and service dog, Sigma.

At Brain Tumor Network, we are proud to help veterans like Daniel find expert care, confidence, and hope.
