When Cheryl, a physician, began having memory problems, she never expected they would lead to a glioblastoma diagnosis. In June 2021, scans confirmed a tumor, and she immediately started six weeks of temozolomide and radiation. As she reached the treatment break that followed, Cheryl faced a crucial question: what to do next?
Through Brain Tumor Network, Cheryl connected with a navigator who helped her explore clinical trial options and major treatment centers around the country. With BTN’s guidance, Cheryl and her husband traveled to MD Anderson, the National Institutes of Health, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to gather opinions and consider possible next steps. Although she qualified for a clinical trial at NIH, she chose a different treatment plan after thoughtful prayer and reflection.
“I’m thankful that you pointed me in my right direction and were there to support me as I chose my plan of treatment.”
Cheryl ultimately had surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center, then continued her care with Dana-Farber. BTN’s early support helped her make informed choices and build a care plan that felt right for her and her family.
Today, Cheryl celebrates four years with no recurrence of her glioblastoma. She continues to live fully and enjoys tending her garden, caring for her home, and cherishing each milestone with gratitude and joy.
