Ben’s Newly Diagnosed Journey

When Ben was told his brain tumor was “inoperable,” he and his family felt lost. See how BTN helped him get a second opinion, have surgery with a brain tumor specialist, and find practical support so his family could stay by his side.

Step 1: When Life Changed in an Instant

One morning at work, Ben’s life was turned upside down by a seizure. A whirlwind of ER visits and tests ended with crushing news: an “inoperable” brain tumor. Ben and his family were scared and unsure what to do next, but they refused to give up.

Step 2: Finding a Guiding Hand

Ben’s family reached out to BTN for help. A navigator listened to their story, offered reassurance, and set a plan in motion to get a second opinion and further evaluation for Ben’s diagnosis.

Step 3: Doors Open and Hope Returns

With BTN’s guidance, Ben was referred to a specialized brain tumor center for expert review. There, a neurosurgeon determined his tumor could be removed. Surgery was successful, restoring Ben’s hope and relief to his loved ones.

Step 4: Side by Side, No Matter the Miles

During Ben’s recovery, BTN’s social work navigator connected the family to a supportive program providing temporary lodging close to the hospital. This made it possible for Ben’s loved ones to stay nearby and offer comfort throughout his surgery and recovery.

Anna’s Clinical Trial Journey

At 18, Anna was suddenly facing a rare brain tumor and a maze of confusing options. See how BTN helped her and her parents sort through test results, reach national experts, and start a hard-to-access treatment from home with ongoing support.

Step 1: The Onset of Uncertainty

At just 18, Anna woke up with new weakness on her left side. After a trip to the ER, she was discharged with more questions than answers, and her symptoms continued to progress. Imaging later revealed a rare brain tumor.
