Helping a Family Navigate Pediatric Medulloblastoma

When 13-year-old Harper’s medulloblastoma returned, her family faced complex decisions about treatment far from home. Brain Tumor Network stepped in with second-opinion support, personalized clinical trial searches, and guidance that helped them move forward with clarity and hope.

Harper is a bright 13-year-old who loves soccer, making TikTok videos, and spending time with her family. In July 2020, after weeks of unexplained vomiting and multiple doctor visits, she was diagnosed with group 4 medulloblastoma, a rare pediatric brain tumor. Harper faced surgery, proton therapy, and months of chemotherapy with courage and determination.

After treatment, Harper’s scans were clear, and she was eager to get back to the life she loved—school, soccer, and time with friends. But in April 2022, a routine MRI revealed that her cancer had returned in several new areas of her brain.

When Harper’s family connected with Brain Tumor Network, their navigator helped send Harper’s records and imaging to top institutions for second opinions. The navigator also completed a personalized clinical trial search and helped the family understand their options. After reviewing everything with Harper’s care team, her parents decided to pursue a clinical trial 600 miles from home. BTN helped expedite screening and enrollment and provided information on travel and family support resources.

Harper became the first medulloblastoma patient enrolled in that phase 2 trial. Even through long trips and tough treatments, she stayed positive, focused on her schoolwork, and kept her favorite motto close to heart:

The comeback is always stronger than the setback.

When the trial stopped working after six months, BTN conducted another personalized trial search. Harper and her family found a new study closer to home, giving them continued access to promising care and expert guidance.

At Brain Tumor Network, we are honored to support Harper and her family as they continue their journey with strength, courage, and hope.
