Helping a Mother Find Answers and Peace of Mind

When Gina’s MRI revealed a rare brain tumor, she faced conflicting opinions and growing uncertainty. Brain Tumor Network helped her sort through records, identify expert centers, and connect with a peer mentor—giving her the clarity and confidence she had been searching for.

When Gina, a 35-year-old wife, mother, and cardiac nurse practitioner, began experiencing worsening headaches after her second pregnancy, she assumed it was related to stress or hormonal changes. But an MRI revealed something unexpected — a brain tumor.

The diagnosis left Gina searching for answers. She sought several opinions but struggled to find a neurosurgeon who could confidently guide her next steps. Despite hearing similar recommendations, she still felt uncertain about her options and what they meant for her future.

In March 2023, Gina connected with Brain Tumor Network. Her nurse navigator took time to listen to her story, gather her medical records, and review previous scans and opinions. She identified additional institutions equipped to evaluate Gina’s rare tumor type and shared research to help Gina better understand her diagnosis. The navigator also connected Gina with the American Brain Tumor Association’s mentor program, pairing her with someone who had faced a similar journey.

Through this process, Gina found the clarity and confidence she had been seeking.

Reaching out to Brain Tumor Network has hands down been the best decision I’ve made on my brain tumor journey. I no longer feel lost, alone, confused, or helpless.
