About Kay

Kay Verble brings more than four decades of social work and foundation leadership experience to her long-standing involvement with Brain Tumor Network. After meeting Rick and Susan Sontag in 2002, she became the first Executive Director of The Sontag Foundation, a role she held for over 18 years. Kay also served as Brain Tumor Network’s first Executive Director, helping patients and families work through many of the same obstacles the Sontag family faced during Susan’s brain cancer diagnosis.

Throughout her career, she focused on guiding, mentoring, and educating families as they navigated the challenges of a brain tumor. Since retiring in 2019, Kay has remained an active community volunteer and trusted advisor, offering historical perspective and practical insight to support BTN’s work.
